Keeps Me From Thinking Of You

I fixed the light out on the front porch,

That got cut off in the wind and the rain,

Got thrown off my feet when I cut through the wire,

But that just seems like a secondary pain.

Cause I know I should know better,

Not to hold on to what is gone,

But some unseen curve ball falls down at my feet,

Cause I know I'll catch your eye somewhere,

And know what's on your mind,

It's there every single time we both meet.

Two crazy worlds colliding,

This car crash we keep driving,

Apply the brakes to turn this round.

I'll just keep my distance,

And I'll just play the game,

It's the only way that I can see this through,

And if by chance I come across lightning,

Whilst walking out in the rain,

I'll jump right in cause that's the only thing I can do,

That keeps me from thinking of you.

Caught my reflection in the window,

Could have sworn I was walking with you,

But when the light caught it right and it captured the moment,

It looked as though the moment was gone,

Just the faded scent of the ghost that once was you.

Two crazy worlds colliding,

This car crash we keep riding,

Is there some way to spin this round?

Hell I'll just keep my distance,

And I'll just play the game,

It's the only way that I can see this through,

And if by chance I come across lightning,

Whilst walking out in the rain,

I'll jump right in cause that's the only thing I can do,

That keeps me from thinking,

I don't wanna go down drinking,

It keeps me from thinking of you.

(Cause I don't know what to do)

20 More Reasons

Where do we go from here?

With all those pictures running round my head,

Of all the words that are better not read,

What did we learn today?

Don't pin your hopes on a crazy wish list,

And that the truth can be told in a kiss,

You say you don't know where to begin,

Just open up the window and let all the sun shine in.

I'm searching for twenty more reasons,

That give me some kind of reason,

Still searching for twenty more reasons why,

Still looking for twenty more reasons,

That give me some kind of meaning,

Still looking for twenty more reasons why.

And you say I'm doing fine,

I'm in a room and it's safe and warm,

Away from all those that could do me harm,

And you just sit there pretty in your summer dress,

Sifting through these files and sorting through this crazy mess,

Only in truth do we find reason.

I'm searching for twenty more reasons,

That give me some kind of reason,

Still searching for twenty more reasons why,

Still looking for twenty more reasons,

That give me some kind of meaning,

Still looking for twenty more reasons why.

You just sit there pretty in your summer dress,

Sifting through these files and sorting through this crazy mess,

Only in truth do we find treason.

I'm searching for twenty more reasons,

That give me some kind of reason,

Still searching for twenty more reasons why,

Still looking for twenty more reasons,

That give me some kind of meaning,

Still looking for twenty more reasons why.

I'm not afraid to try,

And maybe you're the reason why.

Gravity

I listen to the constant rain,

Stream across my window pane,

The pattern noise it conjures,

A rhythm starts to form,

Keeps me dry, keeps me warm,

But the fire in the hearth has gone,

Though the memories they still linger on,

Like tired out emotions,

They flicker as they die,

And as they turn to ashes,

I turn to wonder why.

It's like I'm floating out in space,

I'm orbiting a world,

Caught inside it's gravity,

I have to watch events unfurl,

And now your heart's a million miles,

From the place it used to be,

I can't describe the gravity,

Of how this makes me feel.

So we will justify the silent hours,

From the confines of our ivory towers,

Confirmation bias in all the words we say,

Reaffirm positions in the roles we're left to play,

So I stand out in the constant rain,

In the hope this will wash away this pain,

You hold all the answers,

You hold all the commands,

You wait for me to falter,

I just play into your hands.

It's like I'm floating out in space,

I'm orbiting a world,

Caught inside it's gravity,

I have to watch events unfurl,

And now your heart's a million miles,

From the place it used to be,

I can't describe the gravity,

I can't describe the gravity,

Of how this makes me feel.

Why

Why, why do we just start learning?

Why do we keep on yearning,

For some things that never come our way again?

And why, why do just start living?

When there's so much in giving into something,

That will free us from these chains.

If we can find a way to quit the roles we're forced to play,

Oh why, oh why, oh why?

Why, why do we keep pretending?

The cycle is never ending,

And it falls on us to find a better way.

And why, when all is good around us,

Hope around still flounders,

And we stumble through the night in search of day?

And we can take the strain,

Take away the heartache, lose the pain,

Oh why, oh why, oh why?

Bring new life in from the start,

Learn to trust what's in our hearts,

Oh why, oh why, oh why?

I Will Follow

Catch your breath, make the call,

Flip the coin and watch it fall,

With all three voices on the line,

Just to say I'm doing fine, this time.

So what will be will be,

Pray for fair winds and following seas.

Wherever you will go, I will follow,

Wherever you may run, take care from harm,

Stay warm.

Whatever will come for us tomorrow,

Whether joy or sorrow calls,

Don't fall.

Picture perfect drags you in,

Hides a magntitude of sins, within.

So what will be will be,

As the seasons hold no warmth for me.

Wherever you will go, I will follow,

Wherever you may run, take care from harm,

Stay warm.

Whatever will come for us tomorrow,

Whether joy or sorrow calls,

Don't fall.

I'll be anything you want,

I'll be anything you need.

Right Here Right Now

Who would have thought we'd end up here?

When it all went down this road is unclear,

It seem like we've both been going round in circles most every night,

Hoping all our thoughts would become clear,

Whilst hiding them in plain sight.

So let's put all the history behind us,

We'll work out the future somehow.

When you walk into a room it always makes me smile,

And there have been so many moments you have shown me,

That I have seen for the very first time,

It's in all the things you say, it's in everything you do,

That brings a bright light in my world,

And lets me know that I love you.

So let's put all the history behind us,

We'll work out the future somehow,

Because the only thing that really ever matters,

Is right here, right now.

So let's put all the history behind us,

We'll work out the future somehow,

Because the only thing that really, really matters,

Is right here, right now.

Pretty

As pretty as you are,

Yeah I still see the scars,

That burn behind your eyes,

But I won't criticise.

When your covered up in pearls,

You see a different world,

Put a smile upon your face,

As you hide behind that lace.

I been looking out for you, out for you,

You needn't be afraid of mistakes already made.

Or else how you gonna learn?

For every time that you get burned,

It's just another twist of fate,

Another hurry up and wait.

I been looking out for you, out for you,

You needn't be afraid of mistakes you may have made.

I been looking out for you, out for you,

You needn't be afraid of mistakes never made.

The First To Know

Standing back, taking in everything,

Watching all our bridges burn,

See them lighting up the night sky,

Ashes flame, as embers fall,

Seems I've been to the edge so many times,

Thinking of calling it home,

All my demons they surround me,

I feel them catch me as I fall.

Ooo you'll be the first to know,

The first to know it's true.

Ooo you'll be the first to know,

The first to know, if it's the last thing I do.

Once we're gone, there's no way to return,

As fading light turns into stars,

Thought I misheard the preacher say,

I've got a name for all these scars.

Ooo you'll be the first to know,

The first to know it's true.

Ooo you'll be the first to know,

The first to know, if it's the last thing I do.

Ain't no mistaking all the dreams we're faking,

They all haunt our lives, we can't awaken,

Now we lay against each other trying to prove,

We're in for a sudden move.

Ooo you'll be the first to know,

The first to know it's true.

Ooo you'll be the first to know,

The first to know, if it's the last thing I do.

Hit Me Where It Hurts

So I tell myself I wont fall this time,

And that I'll really stay straight tonight,

But here I am, at this crazy hotel bar,

Talking loose and feeling tight,

It's with the same hesitation,

I pick up that stupid phone.

Hoping against all hope, no one's home.

I'm not talking about religion,

I don't subscribe to your kind of church,

Don't you try to come over here trying save this wretched soul,

You've got to hurt me where it hurts.

Another moon shine, misty morning,

As I stumble from what passes as last night's bed,

How I'd give everything I own,

To take back half those words that I said,

It's with the same dedication I pick up my guitar to play,

Hoping against all hope you get what I'm trying to say.

I'm not talking about religion,

I don't subscribe to your kind of church,

Don't you try to come over here trying save this wretched soul,

You've got to hurt me where it hurts.

I've been building these walls for the longest time,

And it's only you who knows how to get inside,

I was tired of what was hurting me so bad,

Come over here, tell me that my heart was broken,

Showed me how to see while I kept my eyes wide open.

I'm not talking about religion,

I don't subscribe to your kind of church,

Don't you try to come over here trying save this wretched soul,

You've got to hurt me where it hurts.

Hit me, hit me, hit me where it hurts.

Wake Up Call

There's an empty space up in the world tonight,

Message coming down from satellites,

Over the airwaves, straight into our home,

You pay your money and they'll pray for you,

With a gameshow smile that you just can't see through,

As the wise among us question are we all alone.

Snake oil salesman at the county fair,

Sell you promises that they'll never share,

Keeping their ill got gains,

Building up their walls,

They stack them high concealing all the light,

Second guess our every wrong from right,

Blocking out all reason, so we never hear it call.

Ooo as I stumble through it all,

Oooo should I stand or should I fall?

It's time for the wake-up call.

Search our souls for the common ground,

We scan the hatred that is all around,

That's tearing up the bridges and widening divide.

Ooo as I stumble through it all,

Oooo should I stand or should I fall?

It's time for the wake-up call.

There's an empty space out in the world tonight,

As we worship new gods coming into life,

They crowd our airwaves, straight into our home.

We all arrive here from a different place,

Where we end may be our saving grace,

When we leave here, we all leave here alone

Lyrics.
